How the tags are built
Etsy's rules are 13 tags per listing, each up to 20 characters, using letters, numbers and spaces (an apostrophe or hyphen inside a word is fine). Etsy suggests short descriptive phrases, so each tag pairs the item with one thing about it: the style, the era, the brand, the colour, who it is for. Anything over 20 characters is left out rather than cut off mid-word.
Etsy treats vintage as items at least 20 years old, so tick vintage only when it is. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
Questions
- How many tags can you use on Etsy?
- 13 per listing, each up to 20 characters. Tags can use letters, numbers and spaces, and an apostrophe or hyphen within a word.
- Should Etsy tags be single words or phrases?
- Phrases. Etsy's own example tags are short phrases such as "silver earrings", and a phrase matches the way buyers type a search.
- Should my tags repeat my title?
- Use them for the searches your title does not already cover: other names for the item, the style, the era, the occasion.
